Getting Started With Linux on ST40
ST Logo

This web page is designed to help people get a Linux system up and running on ST40 hardware as quickly as possible. It is only one way to do it (there are many others!), and it assumes that you are using target hardware which is already supported. However even if this does not describe where you want to be eventually, it is probably a good exercise to gain familiarity, and get you started.

If you are looking for more general information, a good starting point would be the Linux External Links page on the MDT external web server.

In the best spirit of Internet publishing, if you want any more chapters written, you'll have to give me some feedback! Please let me know what you think of the existing chapters (what was useful, what wasn't, more/less detail, extra things you wanted to know and had to find out - and how you found them out!), and what are your priorities for what to do next. Here are some proposals (and you're not allowed to say everything):

  • Installing and using RPC
  • Using Flash ROMS under Linux
  • Boot from ROM
  • Flash file systems
  • VGA Graphics cards
  • X windowing system
  • Local hard drives
  • Remote hard drives (on the ST20)
  • Keyboard and mice
  • RAM and ROM disks
  • Compressed kernels
  • Running on custom hardware
