LAN91C111 Ethernet devices

SMSC LAN91C111 Ethernet devices are supported in two ways, either on-board or using a STEM module (the db558). The configuration option needed in the kernel is CONFIG_SMC91X:

Note: For historic reasons, older SMSC devices may be referred to as SMC.

Device Drivers ---> Networking Support ---> Ethernet (10 or 100MBit) ---> SMC 91C9x/91C1xxx support

For STEM boards, it is necessary to jumper the STEM board correctly, and possibly cut some tracks on the STEM board in order to get it to work. The board documentation includes the correct jumper settings for that particular board. EMI must be configured correctly; again refer to the board page for information on this.

If a message similar to the following is displayed, the most likely causes are either incorrect jumpers or an incorrect EMI configuration:

smc91x: not found (-19)
