Overview

STWorkbench for STLinux 3.1.0 is an Eclipse-based development environment for C/C++ application and kernel development.

It is based around STWorkbench 3.1.0, which is an enhanced version of the Eclipse 3.3 development environment and includes the CDT 4.0 C/C++ development plug-ins.

Additionally, it provides the following STLinux-specific functionality:

  • Managed make and debug of STLinux applications and libraries,
  • integrated kernel configuration and build,
  • kernel debugging using KGDB or the ST40 JTAG Kernel Debugger,
  • target filesystem browsing,
  • host-target file transfer,
  • read/write serial terminal emulation using kermit,
  • core file debugging,
  • user application profiling and coverage,
  • system profiling using OProfile,
  • graphical system tracing with KPTrace.

New users are strongly recommended to work through the tutorials (available inside STWorkbench at Help -> Help Contents -> STLinux User Guide).

Because this release is intended for use with STLinux-2.3, it can only be run on a Linux host.

The minimum system requirements to run STWorkbench are as follows:

  • 1GHz processor
  • 512Mb RAM
  • 1024x768 High Color screen

The Sun Java Runtime Environment 5.0 or later is required to run STWorkbench. No other JVMs are supported, and using earlier versions will prevent STWorkbench working correctly.

Feedback and bug reports are very welcome and should be sent to Adrian Thomasset.

Installation

STWorkbench is installed with the STLinux-2.3 distribution at:

 /opt/STM/STLinux-2.3/host/stworkbench

and can be invoked by running the stworkbench executable in that directory.

The STWorkbench help system contains detailed information on STLinux-2.3 along with tutorials on using STWorkbench with STLinux on ST40 and ST200. Select Help > Help Contents and expand the STLinux User Guide section.
